João Figueiredo is an anthropologist, with a PhD in High Studies in History – Empire, Politics and Post-colonialism from the Faculty of Letters of the University of Coimbra. Integrated researcher at the Centre of 20th Century Interdisciplinary Studies of the University of Coimbra (CEIS20-UC) and a collaborator of the Center for the History of Society and Culture of the University of Coimbra (CHSC - UC), he is a consultant and an activist engaged in the fight against racism.

His PhD dissertation, entitled Politics, Slavery and Witchcraft in Angola (18th and 19th centuries), analyzed the cultural practices employed by the Portuguese as enslaving mechanisms in their West African colonies. This, while also paying close attention to the continuous impact myths and prejudices about Africa and its inhabitants, historically used to subjugate racialized populations, still have.

Currently his research interests are related to the history of colonial legal systems, the post-colonial fate of African ethnographic and Art collections part of Portuguese museums, and the history and ethnography of white reactions to charges of racism.

He is the author of a number of scientific articles, and has presented papers in African History conferences and seminars in Portugal, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Sweden, Italy, Brazil, France and Mozambique.

Lorena Sancho Querol is researcher in the area of Social Museology at the Centre for Social Studies (CES), University of Coimbra, Portugal.

At her most recent project, Society in the Museum (SoMus), and together with the teams of four local museums in different European countries, she is defining four new models of participatory management for cultural institutions.

In parallel, and in order to exchange ideas and new experiences, Lorena is CES researcher in the Coordination team of P-2020 project “Creative Tourism Destination Development in Small Cities and Rural Areas” (CREATOUR) since 2016, and CES Co-coordinator of the H-2020 project European Colonial Heritage Modalities in Entangled Cities (ECHOES).

Lorena conceptualizes cultural participation in museums as “a set of cocreative and evolving sociocultural dynamics intertwining micro and macro-participation, according to place specificities and to the needs, values and dreams of people conforming local society” (in Revista Interdisciplinar de Gestão Social, v. 6, nº 2, p. 41-70).

Ana Neto Vieira and Matilde Seabra are architects with different experiences regarding their formation and practice. Ana and Matilde founded Talkie Walkie - architectural and cultural tourism in 2012, company incubated in INSERRALVES - Creative Industries.

Talkie Walkie appropriates of the concept Art Education to add the Education from Architecture. Arch Education is based on a methodology that conceives and implements a set of actions of short and long duration allowing participants to debate and become more conscious citizens of the territories they live in and which they act on. The transmission methods of the concepts are adapted to the different types of audience with which projects are designed, some of them are more ludic and others more theoretical, some more a dérive and others more illustrated. What takes place on walks are mental maps, travel notebooks and gleaning objets trouvé. On workshops new spatialities are built and the existent are deconstructed. Architecture is not something you play with because homes do not always have the same shape and not everyone lives the same way. Art will be always present in Talkie-Walkie content because it is liberating and for all childhoods!

Andrea Ebert was born in São Paulo, Brazil, in 1970. Her first show as a visual artist was at in São Paulo in 1996. From then on, she took an increasing interest in the sphere of museums and libraries. How do people interact in those environments and how do institutions facilitate interchange? She was a frequent user of the Mário de Andrade Library, Pinacoteca de São Paulo and Masp in São Paulo and University of Brasília Library. In 2002 she started a career as an illustrator and has published over 20 books.

She now lives in Lisbon since 2012. In 2014 she started the Drawing Club at the library of the Olaias schools collective, as a volunteer. She has also undertaken an independent project at the Gulbenkian Library, based on a detailed study of all 500 books in the Artists’ Books collection. Her latest project as a visual artist took place in South Korea, where she ran workshops with the local community around the theme of reflections on what is familiar and unfamiliar.

Andrea Ebert is interested in how to practise and think within the art contemporary field and cultural institutions.

Amanda Midori. São Paulo, 1988. Visual artist and cultural mediator. Holds a Bachelor and Teaching Degree in Visual Arts from Instituto de Artes da Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho, a specialization in Inclusive Education from Centro Universitário das Faculdades Metropolitanas Unidas, a Master's Degree in Art and Design for the Public Space, at Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto, and currently, by the same faculty, she is a PhD student in Artistic Education. Acquired a scholarship from Programa de Bolsas Luso Brasileiras of Santander Universidades, performing academic exchange at the Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto. Worked as teacher-tutor of Higher Education in the distance education modality in the Complexo Educacional FMU/FIAM- FAAM. Since 2007, she has been working in non-formal education as a cultural mediator in cultural institutions and associations, integrating the educational service of places such as Museum of Modern Art of São Paulo, Programa Curumim of the Serviço Social do Comércio, José de Guimarães International Arts Center, Transforma - Cultural Association, Pinacoteca of the State of São Paulo and Oliva Nucleus Art. His academic and professional background intersects artistic and educational practice, investigating subjects that surround art education, autopoiesis, ecopedagogy, cultural mediation, education for autonomy, collaborative artistic processes, educational turn and accessibility.

Joana Correia is a Phd researcher in Education in the Arts in Lisbon, between the Instituto de Educação da Universidade de Lisboa and Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade de Lisboa, as well as Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade do Porto and Faculdade de Psicologia e de Ciências da Educação da Universidade do Porto. She is a member of the research center CIEBA from FBAUL. She holds a Master Degree in Education in Arts and Cultural Settings from King’s College London, from which she partnered throughout the year with Southbank Center London. Before that, she studied Design at IADE-Lisbon, spending one year in NABA - Milan, from which followed a Master degree in Product Design from London Metropolitan University. She has spent some time working at CERN MediaLab as a graphic designer for Microcosm Exhibition, and spent time working at PictureHouse Cinemas London within the Education team.

Marta Coelho Valente is a PhD student in Arts Education at the Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto (FBAUP) and is a member of i2ADS - Institute for Research in Art, Design and Society. She held a scholarship from FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (2015-2018).

Her research interests are centred on relational possibilities and public engagement in the context of education practices in museums, seeking to explore critical and transformative dimensions of real collective agency. She has presented her research in several seminars and conferences in the field of Arts Education (EPRAE and IMMER - Portugal, ECER - Ireland, Denmark). She has been co-coordinating the IMMER – International Meeting on Museum Education & Research - Rethinking Museum Theory and Practices.

She has a Master’s degree in Painting from FBAUP and degrees in Painting from the Escola Universitária das Artes de Coimbra and in Art History from the Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto. She has been working as a Visual Arts teacher.

Cristina Barroso Cruz has a degree in Anthropology, a master in Human Evolution and a PhD in Biological Anthropology (degrees by the University of Coimbra). The period devoted to the study of past populations through the human remains from archaeological contexts allowed to develop an increasing interest in subjects related with cultural heritage. Teaching has a visiting associate professor at Lisbon School of Education (Lisbon Polytechnic Institute – ESELx-IPL), since 2010, gave the opportunity to further invest in such subjects, since they relate with the curricular units of the degrees and masters she teaches. More recently, is in charge of a working group in the project “Memória e Identidade” (Memory and Identity), studying the material culture of ESELx-IPL. With regard to research, her work has been developed in both Interdisciplinary Center for Archaeology and Evolution of Human Behaviour (University of Algarve) and Center for Humanities (Universidade Nova de Lisboa) exploring the contribution of the bioarchaeological approach to the understanding of past populations.

Natália Vieira - Associate professor at Lisbon School of Education (Lisbon Polytechnic Institute – ESELx-IPL). Master in Community theatre and in pre-school Education. Degree in Specialized Superior Studies in Theatre and Education. Member of Interdisciplinar Center of Educational Studies (CIED-ESELx).

Laurence Vohlgemuth - Master in Education, Formation, Insertion (1998) by the Université Toulouse Le Mirail, France, is currently attending a PhD programme in Equity an Innovation in Education by the University of Santiago de Compostela, researching about the relation between schools and cultural and artistic agents. After several years teaching in primary school and non-formal contexts, joined the Lisbon School of Education (Lisbon Polytechnic Institute) in 1993 teaching future educators, community developers and artistic and cultural mediators. In 2015 coordinated the group that developed the degree in Artistic and cultural Mediation of which she is now coordinator.

PhD researcher in Artistic Education at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto with a grant from FCT - Foundation for Science and Technology.

Master in Practice and Drawing Theory at the same Faculty (2008). Degree in Visual Arts at ESAD CR - School of Arts of Caldas da Rainha (2005).

Recently she made several presentations and communications, national and internationally, on her work investigation between art and education, through Cape Verde, Ireland and Denmark. In 2010 she was invited to the university Det Tverrfaglige Kunstinstitutt i boerum in Oslo, Norway, where she returned in 2016 and 2017. In 2010 and 2011 she was a lecturer at the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra and CESPU, Gandra. In 2012, she joined the Guimarães Capital of Culture 2012 team, at the CCVF and CIAJG in the educational service program, remaining until 2017.

In 2018 she co-founded the collective project BURILAR that works with creative processes in the mediation field of research. She is currently working as a consultant for strategic planning and public mediation in the Municipalities of Ovar (Oliva Art Center).
