Institutions that listen?
Tensions between museums, territories and communities

— Javier Rodrigo Montero

Museums have been spaces for the democratization of knowledge and direct heirs of Enlightenment politics in terms of citizen education and the formation of modern narratives. They are mechanisms that include and exclude other voices, know-hows and ways of relating among communities.

This workshop intends to situate the ways in which museums actively listen to their territories and their diverse communities. With this objective, several work groups will be generated from participatory, popular educational and map work tools. The objective is to question what politics of listening, involving and welcoming do we generate in museums or art centres.
